Bulgaria in the Top 10 in the World for Wine

Manufacturers from the Thracian Lowland with the most medals in the Beijing competition

Bulgaria won forty-four medals from the 25th edition of the “World Wine World” - Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which took place in mid-May in the Chinese city of Beijing. Bulgaria is the only country in Eastern Europe that finds its place in the prestigious top 10 ranking of the world’s winning winemakers.

From the worldwide Wine World, Bulgaria has in its possession a Grand Gold, 15 gold and 28 silver medals. 30 of the awards are for red wine (68%), ten for rose (23%) and four for white wine (9%).Most medals (35) have won manufacturers from the Thracian Valley.

For the third consecutive year Bulgaria won the highest award - Grand Gold Medal. “In 2018, we are the only Eastern European country with a medal in this category,” commented Meglena Mihova from Mihova from “Probex”, representative of Concours Mondial in Bulgaria. “Our success rate is over 35% in the ratio between the samples and the medals won”, said Mihova. In her words, this extraordinary result shows, that Bulgaria produces world-class wines and maintains quality consistency.

The most distinguished this year, Bulgaria receives for the international varieties cabernet sauvignon, syra, merlot and pino noir. Among the winners are the Bulgarian varieties of mavrud and rubin. The samples submitted from the country were 123 out of 32 cellars.

 The World Wine Competition Concours Mondial has awarded a total of 39 wine producers from 6 continents. Among the Bulgarian medalists are: Yustina Villa, Yambol Villa, Domain Boyar, Edoardo Miroglio, Asenovgrad Winery, Todorov’s Cellar, Carabunar Cellar and others. The big gold medal is for the red Stallion Classic wine, Angel’s Estate’s 2016th harvest.
