Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU
The European Parliament filled Plovdiv with foreign tourists
Serious growth of foreign tourists in the Old Town of Plovdiv reports to the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of Europe the Cultural Institute “Old Plovdiv”. Among the tourists, the percentage of clerks and businessmen staying in Sofia is also big, but they are also separating from their business trips to visit Plovdiv.
Only in February the number of guests in Plovdiv brought to the country for the EU Presidency was over 1,000. The most frequent stay of the tourists was one day. They basically were getting to know the great cultural, historical and architectural elements of the ancient city. Requests for more visitors are available until the end of June - until the Bulgarian presidency continues.
“Each of these visitors, who we have lead, return to their homeland, showing what they have seen, will be a peculiar advertisement for Plovdiv” commented Yordan Iliev, who is the director of the Municipal Enterprise “Old Plovdiv”. According to him, the real tourism records Plovdiv is expected to report next year 2019, when Plovdiv will officially be the European Capital of Culture.
