Exhibition "21 August 1968: THE END OF THE SPRING"
Unique photo exhibition recalls the Prague Spring of 1968
Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Plovdiv and the Czech Center Present 40 Authentic Black and White Photographs
Exhibition of 40 black-and-white photographs on “21 August 1968: THE END OF THE SPRING ” will be shown for the first time in Plovdiv. The curator of the unique photos is Czech photographer Dana Kindrova. The exhibition will be opened on the 18th of June in the lobby of the Boris Hristov House of Culture.
Project Coordinator Dana Kindrova is also a photographer and the topic of Soviet troops is not unfamiliar to her. In 1990-1991 she shot their retreat from Czechoslovakia, and subsequently published a post about 15 years ago, deciding to collect photographs that sealed their “arrival”. For four years, she has been searching for photographs not only among photographers, copyright successors, collectors, but also in the archives of many institutions.
The exhibition features a selection of photographs from August 1968 by 19 photographers and five archives. There are also cadres from the funds of the Czechoslovak Telegraph Agency and the North-Czech Museum in Liberec. Photographs were also provided by former editor-in-chief of “Československá fotogalerie” Alena Shoorkova, that she gets after an unknown author releases the photos in her mailbox.
The photos are printed on a foam board, i.e. this is not an enlarged original, because in the 70s and 80s in Czechoslovakia it was not possible to show photographs, sealed the invasion of the troops and the authors carefully guarded the negatives. All photos are printed from scanned copies made from original negatives and thanks to this technique their quality is very good.
The exhibition will be exhibited in Plovdiv with the assistance of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic and the Czech Center.
