The house of Nicholas Nedkovitch embodies the architectural style of European Classicism and is often likened to the Renaissance Age Italian palazzo. Out of all the buildings in Plovdiv’s Old Town, this is the most richly decorated one that has wall murals on its façade as well as inside. There is an intricate painting over every window of the house. Its notable features include the “gossip room” – a small room built into the thick stone wall around the yard, from where the whole street is visible, - and an underground tunnel that allowed the inhabitants of the house to sneak out to the street unnoticed. Inside is a collection of preserved furniture that once belonged to the Nedkovitch family. The rooms are decorated in 4 colors symbolizing the 4 seasons – red for summer, yellow for autumn, purple for winter and green for spring. The Green Room was the women’s room, the Red Room was the guest house, the Purple Room was the dining room, and the Yellow Room – the living room.
