Plovdiv will host a large mosaic conference

World-famous scientists from all over the world will visit Plovdiv in 2020. The city will then host the XIV International ICCM Triennial Conference on Mosaic Conservation. “For the first time, the large-scale forum will be held in a country that has no access to the Mediterranean. And this is a huge advertisement for Plovdiv and Bulgaria, “said Mayor Ivan Totev.

The city takes over the relay on the host of the scientific conference in Barcelona. Between the city under the hills and the organizer of the prestigious forum - ICCM - International Committee for Conservation and Restoration of Mosaics was signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. “The event in 2020 corresponds to our desire to promote the mosaics of Plovdiv and coincides with the timetable for our application for UNESCO, and we believe it will be the key in this process. We have the will and the commitment to maintain our mosaics, “said Mayor Ivan Totev.

The idea of organizing the large-scale international conference - triennial came after the hosting of Plovdiv last year at the International Symposium “Conservation and restoration of mosaics”, which took place in the House of Culture “Boris Hristov”. It was attended by members of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM) and scientists from Bulgaria, Italy, France, Greece, Tunisia, Syria, Spain, the United Kingdom and Macedonia.

“You have an incredible cultural heritage and you have to be very proud. In Rome, the city I live in does not have such a preserved monument as the ancient stadium in Plovdiv. Here children can learn much more about Roman history than in Rome itself, “said ICCM honorary president Gail de Gishen. ICCM is a 40-year history organization with more than 300 professionals from 35 countries. One of the reasons for the decision to host Plovdiv at the 14th Conference is the Mosaics from the Little and the Episcopal Basilicas and the candidacy of Plovdiv for UNESCO with these objects.
