Located near Hisar Kapia in the Old Town, this Revival Period church is first mentioned in written form in 1720. The exact year of its founding is unknown. By the 19th century, it had reached a state of disrepair. With the benefaction of Valko Kurtovitch Chalakov, the original church was demolished, and a new one was built in its place. Its artifacts were temporarily stored in a small chapel in its courtyard that still stands to this day. The new church was officially sanctified in 1832. It was designed and built by master craftsmen from the Bratzigovo area lead be Petko Petkov, and at the time of its founding it was the largest church in Plovdiv, with a length of 30 m and a width of 25 m, made entirely out of stone. The dome was added in 1894, standing 16 meters above the ground. A bell tower was later built to replace the smaller one it had used up to that point. The church houses a walnut-wood iconostasis made by the artist-woodcarver Yane Spirov, icons by Zahari Zograf and his son Zafir, and wall murals dating back to 1871.
