Named after the patron saint of Plovdiv, this church is relatively new. It was built in 1888, and the inscription carved above its doorway states the names of the people involved in its founding – a long list of members of the orthodox church and city councilmen who unanimously supported the construction of the temple. It is in the style of the Revival Period churches – a pseudo-basilica which did not at first have a bell-tower. Over the course of the next few decades, the church is expanded westward. A bell-tower which did not originally match the church dome is added, and a fire in 1970 destroys the dome, and it is restored in a style that matches the bell-tower.
