Stara Planina - Renaissance spirit and adventures
What is common between Kotel, Zheravna, Dryanovo, Tryavna, Bozhentsi and Elena? All these emblematic places in Bulgaria are in the cradle of Stara Planina. Тhe wealth ranges from Bulgaria to Serbia. It was mentioned for the first time in the 16th century, although its history is much older.
But when it comes to history, culture and tourism, the Stara Planina region of Bulgaria is at the forefront. On the peak of Shipka is the monument symbol of Bulgarian freedom and independence. Karlovo, Klisura, Kalofer, Sopot and Kazanlak welcome many memories of the old revolutionaries, but also with the scent of the Bulgarian oil-bearing rose. In Gabrovo you will dare like anywhere else in our country, and Lovech and Troyan will immerse you in a real Renaissance atmosphere.
One of the biggest landmarks in this region is the Troyan Monastery “The Assumption”. It is the third largest in Bulgaria and situated on the banks of Cherni Osam River in the village of Oreshak, which is located only 10 km from the town of Troyan. The evidence of its foundation was brought to us in 1600, perhaps even earlier.
