Hiking to the Slivodolsko Padalo Waterfall near Bachkovo Monastery
A trip to one of the tallest waterfalls in the Rhodope mountains. This trail is part of the Chervena Stena nature reserve and follows the Slivov Dol river, from which the name of the waterfall is derived.
• Hiking in Bulgaria's Chervena Stena nature reserve
• Visit the Slivodolsko Padalo waterfall – at a height of 50 m, it is one of the highest waterfalls in the Rhodope mountains
The Slivov Dol river passes through the beautiful Chervena Stena reserve. The terrain is gorgeous, and there is a series of smaller waterfalls along the length of the river – the largest is 10 meters tall, one is framed by the side of the cliff in such a way that it forms a small canyon, and there are wooden bridges near the most interestingly shaped ones so that hikers can enjoy a nice view of them.
We'll be hiking to Bulgaria's Slivodolsko Padalo waterfall. The waterfall itself is 50 meters tall, its flow is narrow and vertical. It was declared a natural landmark in 2005. The water running down the cliffs is greenish in color due to the moss covering the rocks. Due to the terrain, you can only view it from a distance, outside the range of the water spray. The river bed is so deep, the water appears a vivid shade of blue. There is a bench in front of the waterfall so you can sit down and enjoy the scenery.
During the coldest days of winter, one can see it frozen. It is at its most beautiful during the spring when the flow is strongest. If you like this trail, you might be interested in visiting the so-called Canyon of Waterfalls, home to over 40 waterfalls.
